Patagonia Trophy Trout Adventure: Sea-Run Browns & Monster Rainbows
February 27 – March 10, 2027 There are trout trips… and then there are journeys that stay with you long after the gear is unpacked and the flies are put away. This is one of those journeys. Hosted by The Wandering Sportsman, this 12-day adventure through Southern Argentina brings together two of the most legendary trout fisheries in the world, each wildly different in character, yet connected by the same spirit of wild places, moving water, and unforgettable moments. Río Gallegos, Sea-Run BrownsOur journey begins on the vast, windswept steppe of Southern Patagonia along the storied Río Gallegos. Here, sea-run brown trout, fresh from the Atlantic, push upstream in powerful runs, their silver sides reflecting the ever-changing Patagonian sky. This is classic, two-handed fly fishing at its finest. Long, deliberate casts. The steady rhythm of the swing. The anticipation that builds with every step downriver. These fish are not given, they are earned. The wind can howl. The water can humble you. But when it all comes together, when that line comes tight and a heavy fish turns downstream, you’ll understand why anglers from around the world consider this one of the ultimate trout experiences. Estancia Laguna Verde, Jurassic LakeThen, just when you think you’ve experienced the peak of trout fishing, everything changes. We move north to Estancia Laguna Verde on the edge of the legendary Jurassic Lake, an environment so rich, so alive, it feels almost unreal. Here, rainbow trout grow to staggering sizes and exist in numbers that defy belief. But more than that, they feed with a kind of reckless aggression rarely seen anywhere else in the world. This is visual fishing. Explosive takes. Rods bent to the cork. Fish in the 10–20+ pound class are not rare, they are part of the rhythm of the lake. Every cast carries possibility. Every shoreline holds opportunity. It is, quite simply, one of the most extraordinary trout fisheries on earth. A Complete Trout ExperienceWhat makes this journey truly special is the contrast:
The Wandering Sportsman ExperienceAs with every hosted trip, my focus is on more than just fishing. It’s about the full experience:

Sea-Run & Monster Rainbow Adventure Trip Overview This hosted adventure brings together two of Patagonia’s most thrilling trout fisheries in one unforgettable journey. We begin on the legendary waters of the Rio Gallegos system, targeting powerful sea-run brown trout fresh from the South Atlantic, chrome bright, hard-charging fish that test tackle, skill, and resolve. From long swings and classic presentations to heart-stopping grabs, this is big-water trout fishing at its finest. From there, the adventure shifts gears to the stillwaters of Estancia Laguna Verde, home to some of the largest rainbow trout found anywhere in the world. These are true freaks of nature, thick, heavily spotted fish that have grown massive in a cold, nutrient-rich environment. Sight fishing, long casts, explosive eats, and brutal fights define each day as we hunt rainbows that often feel more like saltwater fish than trout. Throughout the trip, guests enjoy comfortable lodge accommodations, outstanding meals, and hands-on hosting that keeps the focus on maximizing time on the water. This is a small-group, experience-driven adventure designed for anglers who want to fish hard, explore wild places, and chase trout at the absolute top of the food chain. Two iconic fisheries. One remote Patagonian journey. Sea-run browns and monster rainbows, this is trout fishing without compromise. |
